Elmer Friesen
Director
Elmer has almost thirty years of experience in engineering and business.
He holds an engineering degree in Bio-Systems from the University
of Manitoba and has participated in numerous business and management
courses. He has broad experience in varied municipal and engineering
projects, both in Canada and overseas. He has a strong agricultural
background. Over a fifteen-year period, Elmer built and managed
a successful engineering construction company in British Columbia,
culminating in his retiring in 2000. Elmer is a trained arbitrator.
He has been active on a number of councils, committees and boards.
Ben Van Dyk
Chairman
Ben is one of the founders of IBR and was part of the research team that discovered and developed the proprietary process presently in use at IBR. He was instrumental in taking the Company public and is also the inventor and patent holder of the Shearator and Biofilter, both of which are licensed to IBR. Ben has been a general contractor for more than 35 years. As president of Van Dyk & Sons Contractors Ltd., he had direct responsibility for project management, personnel deployment and ultimate accountability for numerous multi-lot subdivisions in Burnaby and Vancouver, exclusive custom homes, commercial and retail strip malls, and institutional building projects.
Jerry Van Dyk
Director
Jerry has more than 40 years experience in the management of the
design, construction and operation of significant pulp and paper
facilities. As vice-president and Manager of Projects for Hipp Engineering
Ltd., which designs and builds pulp and paper projects around the
world, he has been responsible for the management of many multi-million
dollar projects from conception to completion. He is an expert in
the waste treatment of pulp and paper as well as thermophilic digesting.
He has commercially developed several recycling processes, including
co-developing the process at International Bio Recovery Corporation.
Bruce McDonald
Director
Bruce McDonald has held numerous positions in operations, system development and management in his 36 year career in the aviation industry. He is currently serving his fourth term on the Delta Municipal Council where he serves on the Finance Committee and several other committees. Bruce is also actively providing support and leadership to community groups, athletic organizations and his church.
Douglas I. Johnston
Director
Mr. Johnston is a senior executive with extensive financial and operational experience in the forestry and energy industries. Mr. Johnston was President of West Fraser Timber Co. as well as having served as Chief Financial Officer of that company. His background includes considerable experience in developing and managing large capital-intensive projects. Mr. Johnston is a director of North Island Power Corp. of Vancouver where he was instrumental in that company's successful bid and subsequent negotiation of a 25-year agreement to supply BC Hydro with electricity. North Island Power Corp. is constructing a 6MW biomass fueled electricity generating plant at Port Clements, B.C.
Prior to North Island Power, Mr. Johnston was one of the founding shareholders of Princeton CoGeneration Corp. where he participated in the development of a 60,000 T.P.Y. pellet plant at Princeton, B.C.
A Chartered Accountant, Mr. Johnston began his career as a founding partner of a C.A. firm at Quesnel, British Columbia.
John Heersink
Director
Mr. Heersink is currently part owner of Ontario's fifth largest chicken processor and has been involved as an owner/investor in various businesses since leaving the teaching profession in 1978. His business experience has spanned manufacturing,
distribution, property, and agribusiness on five continents.
